Effects of Automated Emergency Braking and Seatbelt Pre-Pretensioning on Occupant Injury Risks in High-Severity Frontal Crashes

چکیده
In high-severity crashes, occupant protection is challenging. Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) and seatbelt pre-pretensioning (PPT) are means to improve protection; the purpose of this study was quantify their effects on injury risks in full-frontal crashes by Finite Element (FE) simulations. The SAFER Active average male Human Body Model used as an substitute. crash pulses were from separate simulations using a Honda Accord FE model. vehicle interior model comprised seat, instrument panel, three-point pretensioned system with load-limiter 3.1 kN force level, frontal passenger airbag. AEB PPT evaluated simulating 1 g pre-crash braking scenario for 0.5 s, without AEB, three different levels: 0, 300, 600 N. impact speed 80 km/h reduced 69 AEB. When neither activated, predicted risk sustain two or more fractured ribs (NFR2+) 100% both 45- 65-year-old occupants. when particularly 45-year-old occupant. concussion rib fractures reduced; upper neck tension forces, pelvis Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (ASIS) lower extremity forces also reduced. Increasing fracture further (to about 48% N force). due resulted (from 71.3% 31%). However, increased slightly forces.

Effects of Occupant Size, Military Gear, Seatbelt Type, and Advanced Seatbelt Features on Occupant Kinematics in Tactical Vehicles during Frontal Crashes
The objective of this study is to understand the occupant kinematics and injury risks in a light tactical vehicle under frontal crash conditions using a combination of physical tests and computer simulations. A total of 20 sled tests were conducted in a representative environment to understand occupant kinematics, and quantify the effects from occupant body size (5/50/95), military gear (helmet...

As part of NHTSAs Rear Seat Occupant Protection Research Program, the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and State Data System (SDS) for Florida, Pennsylvania and Maryland were utilized to estimate relative fatality rates and injury risk ratios between the front and rear seat passengers. In addition, a parametric study of rear-seat restraint parameters was performed to assess chest defl...

The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of obesity on occupant responses in frontal crashes using whole-body human finite element (FE) models representing occupants with different obesity levels. In this study, the geometry of THUMS 4 midsize male model was varied using mesh morphing techniques with target geometries defined by statistical models of external body contour and e...

The effects of airbags and seatbelts on occupant injury in longitudinal barrier crashes.
INTRODUCTION Longitudinal barriers, such as guardrails, are designed to prevent a vehicle that leaves the roadway from impacting a more dangerous object while minimizing the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants. Current full-scale test procedures for these devices do not consider the effect of occupant restraints such as seatbelts and airbags. The purpose of this study was to determine the e...
